I have found the following scales in the GUITAR PLAYER magazine from August 1980. They were printed in staff line format. I have carefully transscribed them into a fingering pattern format and recorded a midi file for each scale to make it easier to explore those unusual scales. Figuring out the real character of one of that scales requires some "fiddling around", though. Personally, I like those Gypsy and Hungarian scales best. Some of the Japanese scales are interesting too.
Some of that scales are kinda common in jazz improvisation, of course they have different names then.
